The Joan R. Herschede Profiles in Courage Scholarship was created to honor the legacy of one of the area's leading philanthropists. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, Joni was the first female member of the Board of Directors at Fifth Third Bank, and was truly committed to her community.

Marian Spencer

MARIAN SPENCER

Marian Spencer was the first female president of the local chapter of the NAACP in 1981 and elected to the Cincinnati City Council in 1983.

John H. Leahr is a Tuskegee Airman who flew 123 missions and has been decorated with the Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, plus area and theater ribbons.
